THE CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (EXTENSION)

Introduction

Computer Centre intends to conduct a Certificate course and an Advanced Certificate course in ICT for External Students. The principal target group is those in the public and private sectors and the school leavers, who aspire to have an organised knowledge of ICT. The main objective of this intended programme is to provide a solid foundation in necessary ICT skills to enhance the mastery of ICT learning activities. Further, the Advanced Certificate course of study will serve as a foundation programme for the Diploma in ICT (Extension) course and any other advanced courses that the Computer Centre may offer in future

The course is conducted by the most qualified teachers in the area. A limited number of students will be registered for the course. The Certificate course will be equivalent to NVQ Level 3

Entry Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 06 subjects in G.C.E. (O/L) with Sinhala/ Tamil, and any one of the subjects, Mathematics, Information Communication Technology, Business and Accounting Studies, and Design, Electrical and Electronics Technology
or
a pass at the G.I.T. examination
or
Any other equivalent qualification is acceptable.
Selection of Candidates: Through a selection / Placement test and an interview

Subjects Taught:

1. Certificate in Information and Communication Technology
CICT 01 – Fundamentals of ICT
CICT 02 – System Software
CICT 03 – Application Software
CICT 04 – Programming Techniques
CICT 05 – Computer Networks
CICT 06 – Introduction to HTML and CSS
CICT 07 – Internet and e—mail

Duration:

The Certificate course will be conducted for a period of six months, and during this period students will have approximately 120 hours of contact with the teaching staff on Sundays from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm at the Computer Centre, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale.

Course Fee -Rs. 25,000.00 (can be paid in two installments)
Application fee- Rs. 250.00
Registration fee- Rs. 500.00

Evaluation:

Every participant will be continuously assessed through various forms of evaluation. This will facilitate participants to achieve success more easily. At the end of each course, a final examination will be held by the Computer Centre of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, and a Certificate will be awarded to the successful candidates. The Final examination of the Certificate course will consist of two papers of a maximum of three (03) hours duration. For the Advanced Certificate course, there will be a written examination and a practical examination.

Evaluation Criteria:

Continuous Assessments – 35%
Final Examination- 60%
Attendance – 5%
